The member representing Langtang Central in the Plateau State House of Assembly, on Amos Kumtul has lambasted the Plateau State Governor and Hon. Ja’afaru Wuyep over conspiracy to hand over Tarok lands to Fulani herders.
The member accused government of using the Commissioner for Water Resources to bring about disunity among the peace loving Tarok speaking natives.
He cautioned Governor Lalong against taking decision that might cause crises in state.
Stressing further he said that traditional rulers in Tarok didn’t agree whether to give out land for ranching or grazing reserves.
“We are yet to see the government white paper, which have they invited or consulted before donating our farmland, we respect our traditional institution”.
According to him, nobody has approach me regarding this issue of ranching/grazing reserves and no communities indicated interest to give his own farmland.
The Lawmaker accused the Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr Jafa’aru Wuyep of embarking on a propaganda to get Governor Lalong’s attention on grazing reserves and ranching that is not there.
He maintained that there is no community in Dadur that promised to relinquish inherited farmlands to government for documentation.
“We even secure more farmland to help our farmers in Langtang Local Government as they are suffering from scarcity of farmland, so we need more farmland for the growing population of people but for the Commissioner’s announcement that 2km of land is available, are not true.
Hon Amos Kumtul said the claim of land which the Commissioner of Water Resources has promised government of 2 kilometers of hectare is not available.
According to the lawmaker he said in Dadur district of Langtang central where Engineer Wuyep came from they don’t have enough space to rear their animals talk less of giving it to the government for ranching.
