Governor Darius Ishaku’s Scorpion Behaviour

There is a popular folktale of the scorpion and the tortoise. The scorpion begs the tor-toise to carry him on his back across the river. “Are you nuts?” exclaim-ed the tortoise. “If I do that you will sting me while I’m swimming across and I will drown.”My dear tortoise,” exclaimed the scorpion. “Why would I do such a stupid thing? If I sting you and you drown, I will drown with you. Now what would be the point of that?”

The tortoise saw reason with the scorpion and agreed to carry him on his back. However, halfway across the river, the scorpion gave the tortoise a big sting. As they both started to sink to the bottom of the river, the tortoise asked the scorpion in

bewilderment : “But why did you do that? Now both of us are going to drown.” “I couldn’t help it,” the scorpion replied sadly. “It’s in my nature.” It is in the nature of scorpion to sting. Pray for scorpion,anoint it with the most sacred and potent anointed oil,fast and pray for a scorpion not to sting,you will end up being disappointed,because it cannot deny itself of its original nature.

When I began to ruminate about the unfortunate situation that engulf the indigenous Tiv people of Taraba state in the hands of Governor Darius Ishaku . The ancient fable about turtle and scorpion unnatural partnership comes to mind.

Like scorpion, when Governor Darius Ishaku was seeking for election in 2015, he approach the Tiv people and begs them for their votes.

Like the scorpion Darius Ishaku knew that  the Tiv people have block votes from their indigenous local councils of Bali, Gassol and Gashaka in Taraba central. Wukari, Ibi, Donga and Takum in Taraba South, aside from those in other parts of the state. He whole heartedly believe that it is only his In-laws the Tivs that can back him to government house Jalingo because of their population, academic and political prowess . First and foremost the Tiv people became afraid just like the tortoise because they knew the nature and character of a typical Jukun person. Secondly, their  never-ending rivalry with the Tivs is like that of Tom and Jerry. Despite that, the Tiv people saw many reasons to votes in their In-law which time and space will not permit me at the moment.

To cut the long story short. Darius Ishaku finally emerged victorious and was subsequently sworn-in as the  Executive Governor of Taraba state. Now, just 17 months on the saddle, Governor Darius Ishaku has given the Tiv people a mighty sting at the back by renaming their biggest town Dan Anacha to Kwararafa.

Governor Darius Ishaku also ensure that the Tiv people have been economically and politically emasculated and marginalised not only in the state political arena but also in the public service,the armed forces, the police among others.

The Governor’s desire to re-establish the long dead Jukun Empire of Kwararafa is crystal clear. It is audible to the deaf and visible to the blind.

Recently, “The governor has directed his officials to burn down all the houses of Tiv people if they resist his order on the new name change for the village.” The Governor statement was condemned by all stakeholders he statement went viral on social and online media outlets.

Now, one BIG QUESTION to ask Governor Darius Ishaku and his Kinsmen (Jukuns) here is – how on earth can a people think the solution to a problem is to increase the problem?

How can the Governor have allowed the hand of the monkey in our pot of soup to transform into that of a man?

Regrettably the governor and his kinsmen are busy fanning the embers of ethnicism, sectionalism, nepotism and tribalism at the expense of peace and unity.

Governor Darius Ishaku is indebted to the Tiv people who voted massively for him. Posterity will judge him by acting a conspiracy scripts against the Tivs which must be dropped for peace to reign.

Therefore, it is time for the Governor and his kinsmen (Jukuns) to turn a new leaf.
