The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has honoured the memory of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, particularly in insurgent attacks, by disbursing scholarships to their children.

The event, which took place on Thursday, 5th March 2026, saw the governor announce plans to sponsor the education of 55 children of the fallen heroes, regardless of their state of origin, as long as they served in Benue State.

Governor Alia described the sacrifices of the fallen heroes as a testament to the fact that “peace is expensive” and emphasized that their sacrifices should not be in vain.

He urged the people of Benue State to see security officers as partners in the fight against crime and called for support in their service to the nation.

The governor also highlighted the patriotism of the fallen heroes, saying their sacrifices demonstrate their commitment to protecting the sovereignty of the nation.

He assured the widows of the fallen heroes that he had provided funds to support them in starting small businesses, which would be disbursed upon profiling.

In addition to the scholarships, Governor Alia sponsored 23 children of Notre Dame Secondary School in Mkar, promising to continue to stand by them through their studies.

The governor encouraged the children to see the relevance of a good education and urged them to make him proud.

The event was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by security personnel in Benue State.

Governor Alia’s commitment to supporting the families of the fallen heroes has been seen as a gesture of appreciation for the sacrifices made by security personnel.

The governor’s actions are expected to motivate the security personnel to continue to serve the state with dedication.
