Governor Al-Makura’s committee for downward review of salary, death before arrival—Investigation

Universalreporters247.com gathered that the committee constituted by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state to review downward the salary of civil servants and political appointees may not yield any result.

Available information revealed that the report of the twenty three man committee would be in favor of civil servants as the NLC, TUC representatives resisted the downward review of salary.

The uphill task of the committee’s work may not be unconnected to the delay in the submission of the report within the stipulated date which was one week.

But insider revealed that workers from level 01-07 may have a soft landing while those from level 08 would be affected.

Also some fundamental huddles of the committee were on how to include staff of tertiary institutions that are not benefiting from the new national minimum wage.

The downward review of salary of medical doctors with a consolidated salary structure (CONMESS) and consolidated salary structure of judiciary workers (CONJUSS) and among others.

The state has been plunged into series of protest and strikes by unions in the state, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) are in an indefinite strike followed by (JUSUN), while the Joint Union of Tertiary institutions (JUNSTI) are ready for showdown if the governor insists in reviewing their salary downward.

All efforts to speak to the chairman of the committee and commissioner of Justice, Barrister Yusuf Shehu-Commissioner of Justice- Chairman met brick wall.

The committee is to submit its report in one week with term of reference as follows

 

  1. To ascertain the revenue accrued to state and Local Government in the state.

 

  1. To study the committee should study the national minimum wage law

 

  1. Study the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) salary package of 2009 and remuneration of political office holders

 

  1. The committee to take a comparative analysis of the minimum wage

 

  1. Submit its report within one week
