Gov Yusuf Vows To Sign Death Penalty For Chiranci Killers

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has vowed to sign the death warrant of anyone convicted over the killing of a woman and her six children in the Chiranci Dorayi area of Kano State. He also directed the state Attorney General to fast-track the prosecution of suspects already arrested in connection with the crime.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said he was determined to ensure justice, stressing that he would approve the death sentence for any convict found guilty in the Chiranci Dorayi killings. He added that the same measure would apply to those responsible for the killing of Hanifa and the Gezawa arson attack, once they are duly convicted by the courts.

During a condolence visit to the victims’ family, Governor Yusuf announced a comprehensive welfare package for the bereaved father. According to the statement, the package includes sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, the provision of a new house, and full welfare support.

The governor further directed that a befitting house be allocated to the bereaved man as part of efforts to rehabilitate him and help restore his social life. He assured that the state government would take responsibility for his welfare and also support him to remarry, should he choose to do so, including covering the necessary requirements to help him restart his life.

On the pursuit of justice, Governor Yusuf instructed the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to expedite the prosecution of all suspects linked to the killings, assuring that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

He also commended the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their cooperation and swift action, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

In appreciation of the government’s intervention, the statement revealed that the bereaved father donated his personal house to the Kano State Government for the construction of an Islamiyya school to benefit the community.

Governor Yusuf concluded by praying for Allah to grant eternal rest to the deceased and to give their families, as well as the people of Kano State, patience and lasting peace.
