Gov. Mutfwang Declares North Central Security Summit Open, Decries Decades Of Insecurity Bedeviling Plateau

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has disclosed that the welfare of citizens is one of the topmost priorities of his administration and primary concern, with over 420 attacks and 10,000 lives lost since 2001 to 2025, as he welcomed the stakeholders meeting to brainstorm ideas on the way forward.

He declared and opened the one-day summit on “The way forward in tackling national security issues at the local level “, by charging the participants to bring and proffer solutions to end insecurity, terrorism, banditry, and land grabbing in North-Central Nigeria.

Represented by his  Deputy, Mrs Josephine Piyo at Crispin suites and Event  Centre, Jos on Thursday, says the  North Central zonal public hearing on National security is timed at a period where insecurity is soaring high.

He said that the North Central summit required all collective effort and a clearly defined policy of government through legislation in promoting the agenda that can bring permanent peace to our vulnerable communities across the length and breadth of the country.

Mutfwang emphasized that the zoning public hearing had offered the people an opportunity to discuss the details of insecurity and threats to the lives and properties of Nigerians in the North Central geopolitical zone.

However, dignitaries expected include, Governor of Kwara, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Chairman of Governors Forum, Engr Abdullahi A. Sule of Nasarawa, Governor  Umaru  Mohammed  Bago of Niger, Rev.Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue, and Alh. Ahmed  Usman Ododo of Kogi State respectively.

The Senate Ad-hoc committee on National security summit, in conjunction with the Plateau State Government, Mutfwang, condemned the destruction of farmlands and the growing illegal holding of small arms.

Governor Caleb stressed that the security network needs to be reviewed by an expert in the field, including the civil society organizations, to bring meaningful contributions towards transforming the challenges of insecurity bedevilling the zone.

According to him, the spark of insecurity bedevilling the zone is unacceptable, especially since Plateau State is the worst hit by the harvest of lives and destruction of properties.

Mutfwang added that this dastardly act calls for serious concern with the national security challenges by repositioning the emergence of embarrassment as a security threat.

He stated that Plateau State is an ethnically diverse state and has continued to witness bloodshed because of the eruptions of competition for land, administrative benefits had devastating consequences on the people incessant attacks.

Mutfwang noted that the killing is best on economic and material evidence that all the isolated communities will be witnessing multiple factors of pursuing a religious agenda and genocide owing to the common sense of land grabbers who exploit our mining companies and are sponsored by the terrorists’ act to deepen their illegal mining activities.

He commended the Senate committee on the choice of Plateau State for allowing the public hearing to hold, as we have seen more decades of criminality, urging Nigerians to return to the path of unity and peace.

The Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Arc Samuel Nanchang Jatau, seized the opportunity to welcome the Senate committee, eulogizing the importance of the summit to the people of Plateau State and the good people of the North Central geopolitical zone.

He explained that the exercise would provide a platform for key players within the zone to add their voices on the insecurities and terrorism  charges participants to end terrorism, land grabbing, and banditry
