Gov. Ganduje Tasks Medical Doctors On Ethics

Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has called on medical practitioners in the state to pay more attention to ethics of their profession, especially doctor-patient relations.

According to him, “being a medical doctor is a moral endeavor and thedoctor–patient relationship is central to the delivery of high-quality health care in the diagnosis and treatment of disease”, pointing out that patients need not only counseling and treatment but also affection to fully convalesce.

The governor made the appeal when executive members of the state branch of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, paid him a courtesy call at the Government House in Kano, (today) Monday.

He said government has received information that while some medical personnel are accommodating, receptive and committed to the duty, the attitude of others leaves much to be desired, warning that doctors must exhibit certain degree of levelheadedness and sociability in handling patients, especially at this time of economic hardship.

The governor said his administration is willing to dialogue with the medical practitioners regularly to sort out their problems, in a bid to provide the best of services to the people of Kano.

He disclosed that the government has resumed work on two abandoned hospital projects at Giginyu and Zoo road with a view to decongesting the existing ones and to ensure that health services are duly delivered to the common man.

Earlier, chairman of the state branch of Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Aminu Muhammad Gwarzo appealed to governor to look into their problems with the state Ministry of Health with a view to solving them once and for all.

Meanwhile, the governor received a delegation from Juma’at Mosque Imams in the state, led by Shaikh Fadlu Danalmajiri, who came to express appreciation over the stipends introduced for Imams as well as special training programme aimed at equipping them to render better moral and spiritual services.
