Gov. Ganduje Donates Land to Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria

Kano state government has donated a parcel of land to the state branch of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, to enable it construct a befitting secretariat in the state capital.

The state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje announced the donation in a speech during the 2nd National Council meeting 2016, of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano.

He said the state government was encouraged to give the land to the association because it recently generated donation of about N10 million from the public, for that purpose, pointing out that constructing the secretariat would facilitate better coordination of its activities.

“We recognize that pharmacists remain central to any credible health system in view of their vital roles as custodians of medicine”, the governor stated, stressing that the dispensing capacity gives credibility to health outcomes all over the world.

Regarding the agitation for recognition of Consultancy Cadre in hospital Pharmacy practice, the governor assured that it will be implemented in Kano as soon as due process is met.

Dr. Ganduje further promised that the government “would continue to support the training of youth to emerge as Pharmacists in the foreseeable future through generous scholarship awards”.

While leading the agenda for sanitizing drug distribution in all parts of the state, the governor maintained that his administration would continue to strive towards ensuring that pharmacies and related facilities operate within the limits of law, while the state Task force on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs would be mobilized for optimal performance.

The National President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Yakasai explained that the meeting would deliberate on certain critical issues including dismantling of open drug markets, training of pharmacists as well as pharmaceutical research and development.

Alhaji Yakasai, who commended the government of Kano state for sponsoring many of its indigence to study medicine and pharmacy abroad, urged the administration to bond both its local and foreign pharmacy students, to avoid brain drain.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso the state government is determined to complete all abandoned health projects, adding that equipment’s worth one billion were recently provided to various health institutions in the state, to boost service delivery.
