Following the twin suicide bomb attack that rocks Gombe town on Tuesday evening by suspected Boko Haram Islamic sect, Gombe state Police Command has said suicide bomber has failed in his attempt to unleash mayhem on worshipers in a mosque in Gombe metropolis.

Spokesperson for the Command, Deputy Superintendent Fwaje Atajiri confirmed this to reporters shortly after the incident occurred.

Atajiri said the suicide bomber was on an explosives laden motorcycle, heading towards the mosque, but the explosives went off before he reached his target.

He confirmed therefore, that the suicide bomber was the only casualty from the incident.

“The incident happened around ‘Kasuwan Mata’ area of Gombe, few minutes to seven this evening. He was targeting a mosque but the explosives went off before he could reach his target.” He said.

The Police Spokesman said hoodlums wanted to take advantage of the situation to loot people. But on the contrary, earlier reports said at least three people were killed in the explosion and several others injured.
