The Vice-Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and his College of Education Akwanga counterpart have advised critical stakeholders in the State to promote the adoption and usage of positive features of globalization towards enhancing growth that will be beneficial to the present and future generations.
The Vice-Chancellor, Nasarawa State University Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, and Provost College of Education Akwanga, Reverend Jonathan Thani gave the revelation in their separate interactions with Participants of Course 16 of the National Institute for Security Studies in Keffi and Akwanga.
The Vice-Chancellor who explained that globalization has a positive and negative impact on Nigerian society noted that the University has adopted far-reaching strategies to address the situation through the combined efforts of internal and external security agencies.
While on his part, The Provost College of Education Akwnga, Jonathan Thani averred that the college apart from setting high academic standards for students is leaving no stone unturned towards mitigating the activities of bad elements in the Institution that have taken to the negative lane of globalization.
Also, other speakers at the event, the executive Chairmen of Keffi and Akwanga Local Government areas, Mohammed Baba Shehu and Suleiman Isa Andaha noted with dismay the overindulgence of some youths in social vices like drug abuse, cultism, armed robbery, and kidnapping as their latest craze for globalization.
The two Council bosses blamed the situation on the absence of concrete policy direction among leaders who should have come up with stringent measures to contend with the menace.
The paramount ruler of Keffi Local Government, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa the !!! made a case for reconsideration of the role of traditional institutions being the closest to the people at the grassroots towards mobilizing support for Government policies and programmes.
The study tour of Nasarawa State under the theme “Globalization and Regional Economic Integration, Implications to Sustainable Development in Africa” ended in Akwanga with the exchange of pleasantries between the participants and the State Government.
