Give More Priority To General Hospital-Health Minister Tells Al-Makura

The minister of health, state Dr. Enahire Osagie has called on Nasarawa state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to attach more prominence to general hospitals in the state, the minister gave the disclosure while commissioning the electronic medical record facilities at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

Dr Osagie says the development and equipping of general hospital will reduced the over dependence on the apex health centres in the state, saying lack of adequate health facilities foist patients to patronized FMC.

“Patients with diarrhea visits FMC instead of general hospitals and Primary Health Care over stretching the existing health facilities, Ehanire appealed to the state governor to continue with the unflinching support accorded to the medical centre.

He called on staff of the centre to be of good conduct in the discharge of their responsibility, he expressed worry over bad attitude to patients, attitude of manpower to work and called for improvement by treating patients with care and candor.

Other challenges of the medical centre also include lack of punctuality bad handling of facilities, lack of maintenance culture incessant strike, advising staff of medical centres across the country to applied resolution as the only way towards addressing any impasse.

Osagie while inaugurating the projects on Tuesday in Keffi during the centre 2017 Health week tagged “The Electronic Way, the Excellency way” said that the projects executed by the centre indelibly in the annals of health care in this great nation.

He said that the federal ministry of health, would do its very best to assist the centre to achieve more giant strides and urged the management of the centre to continue to key in to its good health policies and programmes that have direct bearing on the health and lives of Nigerians.

“Any time, I mention the Federal medical Centre, Keffi,it is always with a sense of  pride because of your obvious achievements as a tertiary institution as people gain recognition based on innovations and how proactive they are in moving their respective fields and nation forward.

“Your states of the art of innovation, the Electronic Medical Records the first in Nigeria, the solar power initiative and others, have stamped your name and the centre indelibly in the annals of health care in this great nation.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that FMC is a peace setter in excellent health care delivery. A Nigeria proverb says “He, who washes his hands well, will dine with kings” I dare say that you will eat with kings ,in other words, you have made your bed well.

“What I witnessed today is a state of institutional harmony at FMC, Keffi for your  great feat couldn’t have come about with undue in-fighting  and I therefore would love to  enjoin you to keep the harmony going ,for a house divided against itself will not stand,” he said.

Earlier, Dr. Giyan Joshua -Ndom, the Medical Director of the FMC, Keffi, Nasarawa state said that the centre has initiated the projects been commissioned considering its importance to the development of the health sector.

“Since FMC came in to existence in 2000, we have strived to fulfill our three core mandates that are the provision of Tertiary Medical Care Service to our people, training of the manpower needed and the conduct of Research.

“In 2013, nine capital projects were commissioned in the centre viz: Accident and Emergency Unit, Family Medicine Complex, Pharmacy Complex, Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics and Gynecology complex, Sickle Cell Disease Zonal Centre

He listed some of the projects to includes Central Information Technology and Telemedicine, NHIS unit and C-T scan so as to improve on the health and living condition of our patient and other people for the overall development of the country.

“In our quest for excellence, we came to understand that the importance of Electronic Medical Records and 200 KVA solar power cannot be over-emphasized, hence the need for its initiation and execution by the centre and subsequent commissioning today,” he said.

He said that the collection of fees has also been made electronic in keeping with the anti-corruption stand of the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
