Garba Umar, Incurred N14.9 Billion-Danladi

Taraba State Acting Governor, Sani Danladi yesterday stated that the former Acting Governor, Garba Umar who was sacked by the Supreme Court recently incurred a debt of N14.9 billion for the state government while in office.

Danladi also that aside the state Government, even the State/Local Govt. Joint account is also not in a better shape, speaking he said that the state/local government joint account was also overdrawn by about N700 million every month.

Speaking he said; “The state government’s account with Zenith Bank which was in good shape as at 14th November 2012 now stands at an overdraft of about N7.7 billion as at 30th November, 2014, with November salaries yet to be paid.

Team loans stood at about N7.2 billion and this brought the state’s indebtedness to about N14.9 billion.”

The acting governor also bemoans the stopping of  many developmental projects owing to the State  inability to meet the State’s government payment obligation, as he added further that; “PW Construction Company pulled out of the state several months ago, the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp has been abandoned while the same fate stares the Nursing College project in the face. Even the Jalingo Motel is now overgrown with weeds and its workers have not been paid salaries for eleven months,” he added. He noted that his administration is already reviewing the position of the state government’s finances to work out schemes with bankers to ensure that they are paid their salaries.

The governor also said that prudent financial management shall be the watchword of this administration as he assured sons and daughters of the state that government would do everything within the law to recover all monies and properties that were stolen.
