Four local government areas in Jigawa state have been selected for the second pretest of census headcount in the state.
This was announced by the State Director of the Jigawa State National Population Commission Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Iro in a press briefing organized by the commission on the commitment of the fieldwork of the exercise.
The director who represented the federal commissioner Alhaji Garba A.G Zakar kafin Hausa said a total of 33 numbers of population staff were engaged to conduct the exercise in the state.
He added that the four selected local government areas to participate in the exercise include kirikasamma, Buji, Taura, and Kafin Hausa local government respectively.
The Director stated that house numbering has been conducted and headcount was conducted between the dates of 3/12/2021 to 6/12/2021 in all of the selected councils
He stated also that the exercise for the headcount of all the four demarcated areas will commence between 7/10/12 /2021 for the free test of the census.
The Director explained that items were provided to their staff to do the work which includes android phones, power banks, and others so as to test the quality of their equipment before the general conduct of the exercise coming up next year.
He added that the commission has almost conducted the enumeration area demarcation EAD activity with 772 LGAs successfully nationwide demarcated from the pilot phase to completion of phase 17 of EAD exercise with only 2 LGAs outstanding.
According to him the conduct of the pretest is aimed at testing the general census methodology, the questionnaires,and data collection methods, the manual for field staff instruction manual, and data editing.
He added that four local governments were selected in each of the 36 state of the federation expected to be demarcated between 2014 to 2021 in the final phase of the EAD.
The director explained that a total of 148 local governments across the country will be involved in the 36 states of the federation in which the census instrument will be deployed to the areas for the test before the actual census.
The NPC director further stated that the full mobilization to the field and the actual pre-test will commence on Thursday 3/12/2021 to end up on 10/12/2021 as it was already stated the sampling methodology has been designed to test run and confirm the visibility and effectiveness of the demarcated enumeration areas for the smooth census exercise.
He appealed to the selected local government areas in the state to extend maximum cooperation to the interviewer and answer all questions truthfully, at the same time appealed to the state government and all local councils and traditional rulers with community leaders as well as religious leaders to support the commission for the success of the exercise.
