Former Staff of Defunct NEPA On The Run Over Vandalization Of Electricity Cables In Nasarawa

Vandalised-cables-620x350Many days for the thief and one day for the owner, the phrase explains the present scenario surrounding the ordeal of a former staff of the defunct National Electric Power Company (NEPA),Mr. Peter, a resident of Akwanga Local Government who is now at large , a reliable source told universalreporters247.com that Peter was declared wanted by the police for vandalising high tension cable meant to connect Ekpan (Lilley) community of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government of Nasarawa state to the national grid.

The former staff of the Defunct NEPA who lost his job after the privatization of the company to Power Holding Company Nigeria invaded the abandoned project executed by the member representing Nasarawa Eggon East, Hon. Muhammed Muluku as part of his constituency project in the last dispensation.

Concerned indigent of Ekpan community, an Eggon settlement expressed displeasure over the missing cable, but a source in Nasarawa Eggon confided that the said Peter who is now at large was caught in the process but informed him that he was arranging the cable for safe keeping, the inaction of the vandal plunged the community into confusion as villagers buttressed that they would take the law into their hands by bringing the perpetrators to book.

“I saw peter with cable wire in broad day light in the name of safekeeping and in few hours time the cable wiring hanging was missing, I told people of the community on the importance of the wire even if as the community is yet to benefit from the project, You will only know the value of something if you missed it”, he added.

The Honorable member (PDP) who executed the project half due to paucity of fund called on communities that benefitted from either electricity, water, school and other projects to imbibe maintenance culture, adding people from the various communities be at red alert to protect projects executed for their sake.

“I blame people of the community for being unconcerned  as eye witness opined that Peter accomplished his deadly act in the day time, saying decisive measures would be taken by security operatives to avert destruction of public utilities by vandals.

“It is the immediate community that would benefit from the projects because nobody from another community would come and maintain the projects for you people.
