Salihu Bala a contractor handling a project under the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board has decried the decision of consultant of the board compelling contractors to procure expensive paints as a major challenge derailing the slow pace of the projects.

“The actual price of the paint is N5, 500 but we are compelled to procure a paint of N9, 250”.

The contractor lamented the way and manner he and other contractors were imposed to purchase paints from some designated paint sellers, another contractors also decried 13% deducted from their money by the management and consultant of NSUBEB.

Others also lamented the delay in the payment of mobilization to site while one of the contractors called for the upward review of the contract as some contractors decried bad terrain as a major constraint affecting their projects.

The consultant in his speech expressed dismay over the hand in-glove to mobilize to site two month after bidding stating 80 percent contractors yet to sign mobilize to site, adding that out 400 contractors only 46 have certificate.

He however said only 5 contractors completed their projects, adding that 28 person are yet to report site.

Kassim T.Tukur of the Canonic Associates in a response denied the allegation, he also denied knowledge of 13% deduct from the money of contractors directing reporters to contact the management of NSUBEB.

The consultant expressed dissatisfaction with the way contractors did not mobilize to site in Lafia, the state capital.

He reeled out abysmal performance, lack of competence by hired officers, hired bricklayers as nagging challenges.
