Flood: Gombe moves to assist displaced victims

minna-floodGombe state government is currently taking measures to support victims of recent flood disaster whose houses have been destroyed by flood in the state.

Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA) Dr Arabs Rukuje told our reporter in Gombe Yesterday that, the state government is working towards ensuring that, the victims received the necessary assistance to be able to return back to their normal lives.

He disclosed that, based on recent assessment conducted by the SEMA, number of displaces persons who were living in camps have drastically reduced from 35-18,  as most of them have moved back to their various homes, “government would do anything possible within its power to ensure  the victim’s safety” he added.

Earlier, the state government had through the SEMA, made a donation of relief materials to the victims, which is said was with a view to ease the victim’s sufferings and bring succour to them.

Presenting the relief materials to the victims, the Relief and Rehabilitation Officer SEMA, Alh Mohammed Garba said the donation was part of the state government’s relief intervention, adding that, efforts were being made by the SEMA to ensure that victims receive more assistance.

Our reporter also gathered that, the flood disaster took place at Wuro- dole, Akko Local Government of Gombe, at about 3:30 am last Sunday as a result of a heavy downpour. According to reports, the flood lead to the destruction of over 100 houses, and displaced about 46 households.
