No fewer than five people were reportedly killed in the recent bomb blast that rocks Gombe Motor Park yesterday evening.
Our reporter who spoke with head of Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, in Gombe Saidu Minin confirmed the incident.
According to him, the agency’s search and rescue team arrived the scene in good time after the blast occurred and assisted in conveying the victims.
He said five people lost their lives and fifteen others sustained serious injuries.
“Our search and rescue team were there immediately we heard the blast. They evacuated five corpses of those who lost their lives. The fifteen people that sustained injuries were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe and the state Specialists Hospital for treatment,” he said.
According to eye witnesses, the bomb was dropped by a middle aged woman, who arrive the gate of the busy motor park at around 19:55 GMT.
“She came here pretending to be a passenger and dropped her wares at a shop, saying she will go and get her other bags and come back soon. Not long after she left, we heard a loud sound and saw people flying in different directions,” one of the survivors narrated.
According to reports, the woman escaped without being caught. Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned as investigation into the matter is ongoing.
