Five Bauchi Pilgrims Missing In Hajj Stampede – Welfare Board

Mideast Saudi Hajj StampedeBarely few days after the completion of this years’ hajj, Bauchi state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board says it is still searching for the whereabouts of five of its pilgrims.

The Executive Secretary of the board Alhaji Aliyu Suleman who disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi, said officials of the board have visited hospitals in Mina and Mecca to search for the missing pilgrims in their mortuaries and hospital beds.

He said so far, only one pilgrim from Darazo local government area, one Alhaji Sule Ibrahim, has been confirmed death in the Mina stampede from the state.

Alhaji Aliyu Suleman used the medium to call on the people of the state particularly whose relatives are currently in Saudi Arabia for this years’ pilgrimage, to refrain from unconfirmed reports on the number of casualties from the state in the stampede.

He assured that as soon as investigation on the missing pilgrims is completed, it will be made known to the public.

Alhaji Aliyu Suleman who said the state pilgrims are now in Mecca, said some of the injured pilgrims that were taken to the hospital have since been discharged.

It could be recalled that over seven hundred and sixty pilgrims from different countries of the world, have died as a result of the incident.

Two thousand eight hundred and forty two people from the state were among the over two million Muslims who performed this years’ hajj in Saudi Arabia.
