The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mohammed Sani Sidi made the disclosure in Yola, Adamawa State capital yesterday during an assessment visit to the Malkohi IDP camp where the victims were camped, saying the Federal Government in collaboration with 18 other humanitarian organizations are there with a sole aim of comforting the victims.
Sani who was accompanied by the United Nation’s country representative in Nigeria, Mr. Daoda Toure and other voluntary, donor and security agency noted that he has come alongside Medical Doctors, Medicament and Socio psycho therapist that will assist the traumatized and injured victims towards full rehabilitation.
He added that the orphans among the victims who were mostly women will be accorded preferential treatment because of their peculiar nature,adding that Federal Government will continue to provide food and other essential materials that will make the stay of the victims in the IDP camp a memorable one.
In a remark, UN country representative in Nigeria, Mr Daoda Toure pledged that the UN will work with Federal and State governments in handling the Boko Haram insurgency victims in Nigeria.
He said adequate attention will be given to the malnourished children, those with bullet wounds and other identified ailments so that diseases especially the contagious ones would be contained.
He also promised that his organization will provide adequate measures in curtailing the spread of diseases in the camp noting that to achieve that his organization will provide adequate toilet facilities as lack of them has been responsible for open devastation in the facility.
Meanwhile, statistics made available from NEMA indicated that there are 63 unaccompanied children in the camp 30 pregnant women, 21nursing mothers, 158 sick persons and 57 households in the camp.
However, their male counterparts have 60 persons between the ages of 0-5 years while 26 are between the ages of 6-17 years.
