Federal Govt. Celebrates Return Of Inter Secondary Schools Competition In Nigeria

The chairman organizing committee, Federal Government Colleges Games(FEDCOL), 2017, Mr. Muhammad Manko, has assured that schools sports is back again.

Manko, who is the director/principal of Federal Government Academy Suleja, and chairman of North Central forum of principals, made the statement in closing his speech at the closing ceremony of the 2017 FEDCOL, held in Jos.

“..Sport teaches us much about life. It teaches us how to get along with people and work well together to achieve a common goal. It is also about trust and responsibility and dealing with success and failure,” he stressed.

According to Manko, the tournament have witnessed exhilarating moments and very significant role in raising school’s sporting profile, with spectacular break ups of old records and new ones sets in place.

“Sport is unifying factor. The city of Jos has played host to 104 Principals of Federal Unity Colleges, 104 vice Principals, 4000 athletes and 500 sporting staff,” he said.

Manko, said it has been a wonderful opportunity to showcase best athletic talents and spirit of comradeship and; “I want to assure you that schools sports is back again.”

“In the light of this, I am most grateful to the Federal Ministry of Education for ensuring that the FEDCOL Games hold bi-annually,” he said.

Manko, appreciated the host community, and Governor, Simon Lalong, for his support and approval for used of the Jos new stadium.

Manko, was also awarded with a merit of award of good organization, by Miss Tourism, Ringsom Nanret.

The director education support services, Federal Ministry of education, Mrs. Justina Ibe, has revealed that the 2019, hosting right of the FEDCOL, 15th edition was granted to the North West, hoping that the zone will consolidate on achievement of the 2017, games.

She said in her vote of thanks, that; “The competition serves as avenue for developing our students physically, mentally, and socially in tune with the inseparable role of sports and education.”

She expressed optimism that the games have strengthened love, understanding and unity in spite of cultural differences.

In the boys category FGC Lagos, became overall winner, with 6 goal medals, 3 bronze, 3 silver, Kings college came second, with 3 goal medals, 1 bronze , 1 silver, FGC Jos came third, with 2 goal medals, 2 bronze and 1 silver, while in the girls category FGC Okegwe clinched the overall winner, with 3 goal medals, 2 bronze, 1 silver, FGC Ikotepene came second, with 3 goal medals and FGC Ikuru third with 2 goal medals, 1 bronze, 1 silver.
