FCT Police Command Calls For Respect For The Rule Of Law

The Command wishes to admonish persons with genuine grievances who wish to ventilate such through peaceful protest to act within the ambit of the law without unnecessarily encroaching on the rights of other law abiding Nigerians.
This call was made on Wednesday by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu after his men successfully contained what would have turned a bloody protest when some angry protesters besieged the PDP National Headquarters, also known as Wadata House, blocking people from going about their lawful engagements and other forms of criminality.
The Commissioner in his plea, advocated for understanding from the public, especially persons who have the need to express their grievances not to forget that others who may be so deterred from going about their lawful businesses in the course of a protest have equal privileges as citizens of Nigeria.
The FCT Police Boss harped on the rule of law and admonished everyone with genuine complaint to feel free to approach the Police or conduct the protest peacefully.
The angry protest which started at about 0600hrs also witnessed a traffic gridlock, while staff at the Secretariat were prevented from entering their Offices and people’s bags snatched, while some were molested. They were dispersed at about 1745hrs by the FCT Police to forestall further breakdown of law and order. Also, some arrests were made. Investigation into the incidence is on-going at the FCT Police Department of Criminal Investigation for possible prosecution.
