In-spite of court injunction, the Federal Capital Development Authourity, FCDA and the Development Control on Monday, accompanied by armed Joint Task Force team besieged Kpaduma 1 community, located at Asokoro District of Abuja demolishing houses. It will be recalled that the residents of Kpaduma 1 has obtained a court injunction restraining the FCDA and development control from demolition pending the determination of their court case, but this order was flagrantly abuse by the FCDA when they demolished the community on Monday.
On that Monday afternoon, about 1:30 pm the community was thrown into chaos following the storming of the community by the armed Joint Task Force members who overpowered the community members that tried all they could to stop the demolition, as the JTF threatened to shoot them if they dare try to stop them from carrying out the demolition.
In order to hide their identity, the JTF team who was made up of more than 15 Army officers and 16 Policemen, removed their tags and emblems prior to entering the community to carry out the demolition process, as they stationed themselves in strategic areas of the community.
Speaking to universalreporters247.com, Mr Simon Baba-Yerima who is the Secretary of the Community, said; “This is really painful, provoking, disastrous and unacceptable, this is really an act of military con civilian brutality against innocent Nigerians. Our people are thrown into unnecessary confusion because of this unannounced demolition exercise. This is really wicked and for the fact that our case is still in court.”
The secretary who not hiding his disdain for the FCDA’s action said; “The people who entered our community introduced themselves as officials of FCDA and Development Control, in company of well armed JTF as if they were going for war, just to demolish our houses. This is unacceptable. Our matter is in court and again, they are violating the law of the land. Is it a crime that we are poor? This is our village and we have the right to have a peaceful life, just like we were before the inception of the FCT.”
Lamenting further he said; “I wonder why the FCDA officials are coming to demolish our houses, it is unfair. We do not have any more trust in the government, because, we are living in fear. The JTF had to beat up our youth and arrested over five of them, for no good reason, after they had carried out their assigned duties. This is a democratic government for God sake, not military, why are they treating us like animals?”
Meanwhile speaking also one of the residents who were affected, Joseph Madaki, said; the JTF sprayed tear-gas on them and shot in the air to scare them away. They tied up our people and told them to face the sun, beating them up as if they were criminals. This is very painful, why is this government allowing its citizens to be maltreated this way? We are suffering.”
Madaki said; “The way they are treating us in this FCT is not fair, this is our land, where do they want us to go to? They want to push us out of our homeland, without making alternative provision for us. The worst part of this whole thing, is that the people doing all this things to us, have their villages in their various states and they want to remove us from our own. That is not fair.”
When inquired from the office of the Development Control on the demolition, a senior who crave for anonymity hinted that the information got to him, however that he wasn’t aware of any instruction from higher authorities to carry out the demolition of the community due to the pending court case between the community and the FCDA.

Meanwhile, some of the youths were arrested by the JTF at the day of the demolition, they include, Jerry Sarki, Yerima Fajemi, John Danlami, Kefas Tanko, Ishaya Danladi.
