Exposed How Principal Of GSS Doma, Nasarawa Directed Students To Pay N1000 Or Donate Mat Due To Shortage Of Seats

In spite of the free education policy of the current All Progressives Congress under the headship of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, shortage of desks and chairs in public schools in the State has continued thereby disrupting free flow of academic performance.

The directive from the principal of Government Secondary School,Doma North compelling students to pay N1000 for desk or come along with a mat has continued to generate heat among parents and guardians alike.

The principal of the school when contacted on phone revealed that the directive was due to the acute shortage of desks in the school, but she however said the decision followed a resolution by the Parent Teachers’ Association.

“The decision was taken at a PTA meeting and the school would abide by the decision, the principal added.

The PTA chairman Umar Ebenya when contacted on phone whether PTA gave the approval for the collection of N1000 from each student for the procurement of desks, the chairman averred that the National Parent Association Of Nigeria (NAPTAN) Nasarawa state wing gave the approval.

Honorable Ramatu Ajuji Abubakar, the State Commissioner of Education when contacted for comment maintained that the State Government is on top of the situation, saying the state Government have a better plan for the education sector.

The House of Assembly just passed the 2016 budget, and by the grace of God, we will address the shortage of seats, the Commissioner reiterated.

It would be recalled that the Education sector got the highest vote of N17bn in the 2016 budget presented to the state House of Assembly by the state Governor and was subsequently given an upward review of N64,744,000.

The House committee on Finance and Appropriation in its report revealed that the committee made upward review in some vital areas of the 2016 estimate which the education sector is inclusive.
