CONDITION OF HOSTELS ACCOMMODATION

The famous Teachers College now Government Government College Obi’s hostel accommodation is in total decaying and deplorable conditions, the existing four hostels are in a sorry state but still been used and maintained by students while the management of the College has stop students from using two of the hostels which they consider safer, and the remaining two are in shambles and in a decayed state.

One of the abandoned boys’ hostel and abandoned  girls’ hostel has now become a safe haven and home for bats and other flying animals  while a former General House is now standing without roof on it,  few metres is the school poultry which also houses the Manager’s House that has been overgrown with grasses and other weeds.

WATER SUPPLY

The College is in dire need of potable drinking water as the overhead tank and water pipes supplying water to the entire school have become obsolete and old, this foisted the Parents Teachers Association to construct a local borehole which its water supply is not enough for the school use.

As at press time, it was uncovered that Fulani herders are responsible for the dysfunctional of the local borehole which this medium reliably gathered that the existing local borehole needed only five bags of cement to make it functional.

TOILETS

The absence of pipe borne water constitute a serious impediment to toilets existing in the school, this compelled students to take to open defecation which is dangerous to the lives of students due to tall grasses, in fact, universalreporters247.com observation and findings show that all existing toilets are in comatose.

COLLEGE KITCHEN

The school lacks kitchen and this also forced the school PTA to construct a mini kitchen for the school, some of the cooks as at the time of this report lamented over the incessant disturbance and attacks by snakes.

As learnt, it Is a call for concern following the unabated trespassing of plots of land belonging to the College, an insider attributed the trespassing of land belonging to the school to the inability of the state ministry of education to fence the College making it porous for intruders and Fulani herders to come inside the school.

A visit to the school library is a call for concern as only obsolete, Old, outdated and archaic textbooks are on the shelves of the library, some of the textbooks found in the library are books published as far back as 1976.

Nothing was found in the laboratory to qualify the sheds-called laboratory apart from the concrete partition erected since the inception of the school in 1975.

The Principal of the school declined to comment on the population of the school instead he directed universalreporters247.com to the Commissioner of education.

The Area Manager of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Lafia Region, Jibrin Samaila when contacted on phone over the disconnection of Government College Obi for the past ten years from the national grid, said he is not in town but directed universalreporters247.com to contact the Public Relations Officer for more clarification but staffers of AEDC declined comment.

The state commissioner of education, Ahmed Tijjani Aliyu in an interview said the state government is aware of the deplorable condition of the school.
