Gombe state government yesterday donated the sum of N2million to assist deceased families of fallen heroes who lost their lives while performing their legitimate functions.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya announced the donation in Gombe at the event of the 2019/2020 armed forces remembrance day which held at Government House chamber.
While sympathizes with the fallen heroes governor Yahaya appealed to the public not to relent to donate generously in support of families of the deceased.
He said the public should not look at the event as the day of remembrance but to see and donate generously to support them.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya also announced the sum of N1million as his personal contribution to support activities of Nigeria legion Gombe state chapter.
Speaking earlier, commissioner ministry of women affairs and social development Na’omi JJ Awak said the aimed and objective of the event was to honoured fallen heroes who fought in favor of the country with desire heart.
She said Nigeria has marked armed forces remembrance day and emblem appeal fund as yearly event to support the activities of Nigeria legion.
Chairman Nigerian Legion Gombe state chapter Warrant officer Ibrahim Madaki emphasized the need to put hand on deck in ensuring that the legion is supported with funds to enable them reach out to the deceased families of fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect the country.
He assured the governor that previous emblem appeal fund which was donated to the legion was used judiciously where they some items and distributed to the deceased families.
He called on the government to come to their aide by providing them with befitting Secretariat to operate their activities.
