Edo State Security Corps Seizes Weapons, Arrests 18 Suspects

In a major crackdown, Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) operatives arrested 18 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers during a bush operation along Benin–Auchi Road.

Meanwhile, ESSC operatives recovered 38 locally made firearms, pellets, and charms during the operation.

Subsequently, Corps Commandant Friday Ibadin confirmed the arrests occurred near Eguedion Camp, adjacent to an Army checkpoint.

After spotting two armed men, the team pursued them into the bush, uncovering a hidden camp.

Consequently, 18 suspects were apprehended during the chase.

Ibadin elaborated, stating the operatives’ swift action disrupted criminal activities.

Notably, authorities identified 17 non-indigene suspects and one from Agbede, strengthening Edo State’s security efforts.

This outcome underscores targeted operations to dismantle criminal networks.

He added, “On February 14, 2025, armed suspects fled upon seeing my team, leading us to their camp.”

Notably, 17 suspects are non-indigenes, while one hails from Agbede. Furthermore, 38 loaded firearms and charms were seized during the raid.

Ibadin emphasized sustained efforts to eliminate criminal networks, ensuring safety for residents and farmers.

Finally, he reaffirmed ESSC’s commitment to maintaining rigorous patrols and proactive security measures statewide.

“Our men will continue to comb the bushes and sensitize locals to ensure our forests are free of criminals.

This is part of our commitment to making Edo State safe and secure for all,” Ibadin stated.

Following the arrests, ESSC transferred the suspects to Agbede Police Station’s DPO for investigation and prosecution.

Additionally, Commandant Ibadin urged stronger collaboration with state security agencies, highlighting joint efforts’ necessity to eliminate crime entirely.

This operation follows Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent directive ordering agencies to eradicate criminals from Edo State comprehensively.

“Meanwhile, the governor directed that Edo’s forests and bushes must be safe for farmers and citizens,” Ibadin stated.
