As Christians across the world celebrate Easter the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a call has been made for unity, peace, and national renewal in Nigeria.
Nelson Malau, the Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, urged Christians to embrace love, justice, and peaceful coexistence as they mark the season.
In his Easter message, Malau described the celebration as a defining moment in the Christian faith, symbolizing a “new exodus” from sin, death, and darkness. He said the period serves as a reminder of God’s redemptive power and humanity’s responsibility to respond with genuine love for God and one another.
Citing the Bible in Matthew 22:37–39, the cleric encouraged believers to make love their guiding principle, stressing that true devotion to God must be reflected in how people treat others.
He highlighted fairness, justice, and mutual respect as essential pillars for building unity, sustainable peace, and national development, noting that these values are critical to Nigeria’s progress.
Referencing Micah 6:8, Malau called on both leaders and citizens to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God,” urging them to demonstrate these virtues in both public and private life.
He expressed hope that the Easter season would inspire renewed commitment to righteousness and strengthen peaceful coexistence across communities.
“May this sacred season bring hope, healing, and renewed strength to our nation,” he said.
