Douglas House: Remains The Engine Room, House Of Imo State Govt. Owerri

For the sake of civilization in Africa and in Nigeria precisely,so many foreigners most especially the Britain legally colonized Nigeria and gave her the name (Nigeria as a country) as they nation got her independence in 1960.

 

However,as part of their (white men) exploration,a District Officer,Dr.Douglas,as the first Colonial Master and a Political Officer,who worked harder towards the development and civilization of Imo State,Nigeria,before 11th May 1902.

 

Dr.Douglas was born in Sunderland,Durham England in 1875 and died in 1926,after his adventured and his explore genealogy in the Eastern parts Nigeria,mostly in Imo State,just before the 1960 Nigerian Independence.

 

He came to Imo State between 1902 and 1904.

 

Since then,the people of Imo State especially the leaders such as Governors who legally occupies the seat of power both past and present have continued to cherish,value and respect his Old and Ancient House in Owerri, which is officially called “Douglas House”,where he lived during his tour and era.

 

Though,so many former Governors of the state have continued to safe-guard the Douglas House which is rightly located inside the Govt.House premises in Owerri,the Capital of Imo State.

Dr.Harold Morday Douglas,was one of the British Masters who explored and adventured Owerri Province of Imo State  colonized the state.

 

Upon the creation of the Imo State,a major road in Owerri was named as “Douglas Road”,which has continued to be the most busy and most popular road in Imo State.

 

Since the creation of Imo State in 1976, Douglas House has been name given to the Imo’s seat of power.

 

Until today,31th May 2019,the Imo Douglas House is still standing as an archive and ever respected by every body in Imo State.
