Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe has warned the newly recruited staff of the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service to avoid anything that will implicate them either by issuing manual receipts or collecting cash from taxpayers
He however advised the lucky 120 Recruits to utilize the opportunity accorded them for the service of humanity and the service of God.
While declaring the induction training open, the State Deputy Governor, Dr.Emmanuel Akabe, disclosed that the State BIR going back to 2019, The board is generating N500m monthly.
He added that Nasarawa State under Governor Abdullahi Sule has supported the harmonization Law as well giving the board its autonomy to operate as an entity that can sue and sue.
“What we are expecting is that we are migrating from N500m to generating N10bn monthly”.
The Deputy Governor added that the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue is amongst the best-performing State boards in the federation in terms of revenue generation.
“Our Government would not condone any act of corruption or dereliction of duty and if anyone was caught in the web of any vices will shun the one out”.
“There is a day for reckoning that is life after death, I hope this will not be your portion”.
In his speech, the Chairman Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service, Ahmed Yakubu Mohamed, disclosed that the board was established in 1996.
He described the Journey as a “New Journey” urging the inductees to put in their best for optimum results.
He also congratulates the State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, and his Deputy, Dr.Emmanuel Akabe for their optimum support and willpower
He said the organization encourages hard work and dedication to duty as a revenue-generating organization.
According to him,”The Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service in a proactive step to acquaint the newly recruited staff of art of civil service, especially in the State Board of Revenue Service has organized an induction training for their newly recruited staff.
Ahmadu Haruna Ahmadu of Guaranty Trust Bank hinges more on Guaranty Pension which has to do with civil servants and Public servants respectively.
He explained that Pencom, which is Pension administrators have the responsibility to regulate and monitor the contributions of the new staff.
Ahmadu said an employee was mandated by law to contribute 8 percent of their basic salary. While at the receiving end, the amount captured for every contributor is 18 percent of that money comes into the account of an employee monthly as Pencom will invest the money.
He described the GTB pension as one of the top-notch in the administration of emolument benefits for retirees.
In her presentation, Barrister Rabia’t Ibrahim Addra gave a hint on the harmonization law, she hinted that the BIRS is an autonomous body established by law.
She in addition averred that the board is supreme for the employment, transfer, punishment, dismissal, and promotion, as well as has the power to delegate some persons to collect tax on her behavior.

To seize taxpayers’ property if he defaulted.
Issue notice to defaulting taxpayers.
Section 55 (1) says the board is subject to the Governor’s directive except if he delegate a staff.
A staff cannot single handed enforce an assignment.
Mr Bulus Akaba , The Director of Collection who spoke and educated the new staff on Personal Income Tax and Assessment said Personal Income Tax was one of the higher tax collected.
He described the Personal Income Tax as more sustainable and generates more tax.
According to him, “Section 1 (1) said it imposes tax on parents and children, income from salary and amongst other avenues”.
“Self-assessment is allowed when a staff of the board filed an assessment within 90 days for taxpayers”. Or at times applied best of Judgement to arrive at the actual tax he supposed to pay”.
The Chairman advised the inductees to acquit themselves with a copy of the harmonization law and other relevant documents.
Mr.Abisabo while speaking on Information Communication Technology described ICT as the backbone of the board, He explained that ICT has eased the workload of the board.
“We have unlimited wifi, and Internet services, especially at the zonal offices statewide including all working facilities”.
He also briefed the inductees on the use of Central Billing Systems by logging the right channel, This aggravates a gateway to one place, Meaning every authority in the State can view everything at a glance with an invoice method.
