The Executive Chairman of Doma Local Government Area, Honorable Jonathan Okuba Addra, has warned Fulani herdsmen and Tiv from Benue State to desist from entering Doma for any act of retaliation. He emphasized that anyone caught causing conflict will face serious consequences, as Doma is a land of peace.
The Chairman convened a critical peace and security meeting over the weekend at the Doma Guest House, where all village and District Heads were present at the expanded meeting
Honorable Jonathan Okuba Addra issued a stern warning to all Fulani leaders, Tiv’s and farmers to avoid any skirmishes that may undermine the holistic effort of the Local Government and Joint Security.
The Chairman Doma Local Government Council, Honorable Jonathan Okuba Addra has removed the Ardo of Igbabo for being accused of abetting skirmishes in the Igbabo community.
Ardo of Igbabo was removed by the executive chairman due to his inability to effectively discharge his leadership responsibilities.
Also during the meeting are Representatives of the Tiv and Fulani communities and farmers, including security personnel, that as the likes of Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.
Others are Immigration, Vigilante groups, Forest Security and Hunters Association, National Youths Council, Christian Association of Nigeria, and the Jama’atul Nasrul Islam.
He urged all and sundry to act as peace ambassadors at all times
The Chairman also warned village heads about the ongoing rumors alleging the involvement of some Village Heads in the many crises. He stated clearly that any Village Head found wanting will face the temerity of his inaction.
Hon. Jonathan Addra expressed deep grievances over the rising waves of tensions between Fulani, Tiv, farmers, and other groups within Doma.
The Executive Chairman sympathized with all those affected by the recent conflict. He prayed for peace, unity, and mutual coexistence in Doma, Nasarawa State, and Nigeria as a whole.
Over the years, Doma Local Government, been a border community with Benue State, as well as having Tiv-speaking people of Benue and Nasarawa State, as well as Fulani herders in Benue and Nasarawa State, The skirmishes remain unabated for quite a long time, especially during the rainy season.
