Doctors, Pharmacists Embarks On  Free Eye Treatment In Plateau

eye-testAbout 15 doctors, four nurses, three pharmacists are on hand to render free medical treatment  services on eye surgery and other complicated eye problems to  be conducted in Bokkos local government area in the central part of the state.

Thousands of people with eye defects are to benefit from the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria, OSN, free eye treatment services in Plateau state as the society commence a one week Pre-congress activities in preparation for its 40th Annual Congress/Conference for 2015 in the state.

Already, over one thousand inhabitants of Rizek community, including about 200 staff of the National Remote Sensing headquarters in Jos East local government area, Northern Plateau are excited with the treatment exercise doctors from the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, are rendering at the premises of the establishment.

Speaking with newsmen at the venue of the exercise, the Chairman, Pre-Congress committee of the OSN 40th Annual event, Dr. Obikili George said the Congress Is slated to hold from August, 24-28, 2015 in Jos.

Dr George, a consultant with JUTH said the free exercise is just OSN way to deliver service to communities by screening the people to find out their health challenges as it concerns the eye in particular which at the end, free eye glasses, surgery and drugs would be given out.

The four-day event proper is aimed at re awakening the society on the need to care for the eye, an important organ of the body that has over the years been relegated to the background.

This year’s event with the theme: Building Partnership For Eye Care and a sub-theme; Generating Evidence For Eye Care is apt, as it intends to draw eye specialists within and outside the country who are expected to share their wealth of experience among experts in the eye health care industry and to brainstorm on the way forward for an effective eye care delivery for sustainable national growth, the organisers enthused.

They stressed that the choice of Jos, Plateau state for this all important conference, can be appreciated based on the fact that the historic city, with its climate weather, is known for its peace and hospitable nature. As one of the most cosmopolitan city in the country, Jos city is also a favourite holiday location with a rich tourist haven.

Apart from the free eye treatment services, the Pre-congress activities will include, but not limited to Eye Camp, Conference, Excursions and Exhibitions
