An Agro company Chongtami Global Farm has donated 10,000 seedlings of different varieties to the Bauchi State Government in order to tackle deforestation in the State.
The manager of the company Mr. Timothy Bitrus Malima disclosed this to Journalists in Bauchi.
Malima lamented that tree felling had become rampant in disregard of the law saying the development had led to climatic changes including flooding that cause devastations to farmlands, houses, and lives
He said to solution to flooding and other natural disasters is planting trees.
He advised the state government to encourage residents of the state to plant trees and warn them against indiscriminate cutting of trees to prevent natural disasters.
He said the farm, located at Marti in Tafawa-Balewa Local Government Area, was established in 2017 and covers about 10 hectres of land with thousands of economic tresses to boost agricultural products.
“The varieties of the seedlings donated to the state government were: Guava, Mango, Cashew, Coconut, Palm Tree, Malena, Nim Tree Acasia, and Locust Bean, to share 500 of the trees to all the 20 local government areas of the State,” he said.
Malima said that the company donated the tress to the state government during the commissioning of the farm by the then Commissioner of Agriculture then, Mr. Jidauna Tula Mbami who was represented by the program manager, Alhaji Abubakar Jafaru Illelah.
While collecting the 10,000 seedlings on behalf of the state government, he thanked Chongtami Global farm for supporting the state government not to witness deforestation in the future.
During the commissioning, Jidauna said that the state government would assist in terms of fencing the farmland, drilling of boreholes, and finances. support in order for the business to boost.
Malima said that since last year the seedlings were distributed to all local governments and reminded the state government to honor its promise.
He appealed to Governor Bala Mohammed to look into the matter with a view to honouring the promise.
