Data Capturing: DOT’s Willing To Partner With NURTW

Directors of Transportation (DOT’s) who are students studying and as well operating in all the Tertiary Institutions in Imo State under the platform what they tagged as “Aluta Pilots”,  on Tuesday, Oct.26th 2021, paid a very warm courtesy visit to the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Hon.Comr.Samuel Udeh , (Ezeumuokorobia) in his Owerri office.

 

At the visit, the students collectively expressed satisfaction for the appointment of Comr.Udeh, even as they described him as a core unionist with interests of all the drivers and student-transporters at heart.

 

In his words, the Director of Transport from FEDPONEK Owerri, Comr. Divine Chukwuemeka Okpe, who is also the

Council of Directors of Transportation (CODOT) in Imo State Tertiary Institutions,  said , ” All the Institutions ( Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges) are working inline with the Shared Prosperity Government policies mostly as it concerns effective security of lives and properties.

 

“As students and transporters operating at various communities where high institutions are located, we are targeting at fighting against insecurity through effective data capturing of all our drivers as empowered and enshrined by the Federal Scheme. Our institutions has different colours for identification. We have data base of all the drivers operating/ plying on the roads with manifests which upholds the mandates of our drivers and passengers. We can not stand against the authority of the government “, Okpe disclosed.

 

“The issue of painting for us as institutions is inapt because we all already have our official school colours and our institutions’ logos with our various painting which we are known for.

 

We are ready to assist the government in revenue generation. We know that the government needs financial support but we are willing to work with the government of Governor Hope Uzodinma”,Okpe submitted.

 

Adding their voices, the Director of Transport, FUTO, Comr.Ikechukwu Ugorji, the representative of NAISS, Comr.Sunday M.Igwe, the Director of Transport, AIFCE, Comr.Moses Unegbu, collectively congratulated the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Udeh, for his appointment by Governor Uzodinma, even as they jointly echoed that they are willing to partner with the government.

 

Speaking, the DOT IMSU State Chairman, Comr.Moses Otu, said the transport sector of his institution is focused to the upliftment of the activities of the transportation system in the state.

 

Comr.Otu, in his explanations, hinted that his institution’s vehicles can be generally identified with their colour and  paintings.

 

“The transportation sector of IMSU shall at all times provide all data to the govt.of Imo State for security purposes. Note that our drivers are not cause of insecurity in the state. We are working cordially with NANS in the part of security. We have security networks from across the 36 States of Nigeria. We are appealing to the Shared Prosperity Government to leave our intervention scheme alone. It is our own franchise. We are ready to generate revenue for the govt. We are targeted and aiming at building mutual/cordial relationship with the state as tertiary institutions transportation sectors”, Moses opined.

 

The Directors of Transport who added their voices,  once more, insisted that all the Tertiary Institutions in Imo State would not engage into painting of vehicles anymore, hence they have designated colours.

 

Some of the school leaders present at the courtesy visit includes : Comr. Ikechukwu Ugorji, of FUTO, Comr.Divine Okpe, of FEDPONEK, Comr. Moses Unegbu, of AIFCE,  Comr.Sunday Igwe, of NAISS, and Comr.Moses Otu, of IMSU.

 

 

Responding, the Imo NURTW State Chairman,Hon.Comr. Samuel Chijioke Udeh, appreciated the students for their individual contributions towards the growth of transportation sector in Imo State from their various Tertiary Institutions.

 

Udeh, therefore encouraged the Tertiary Institutions Leadership for maintaining decorum as Directors of Transport.

 

The NURTW Chairman assured the students of his effective synergy, even as he promised to reposition the sector.

 

Ezeumuokorobia therefore disclosed  that NURTW is working to establish/ create bus stops in Owerri Metropolis.

 

He however charged the students (transportation leaders in Imo Tertiary Institutions) to be civil in all they do.

 

“Be law abiding, obey the government, support the administration of Governor Uzodinma. Offenders of the traffics must go to jail through mobile courts that would be established. We are poised to restore sanity into the transportation system in Imo State”, Udeh revealed.
