Dalung Lambasts Tinubu On His Broadcast On Subsidy Removal That Inflicted Hardship, And Suffering On Nigerians

Yakubu Busari

The former Minister for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Solomon Selcap  Dalung lambasted President Ahmed Bola Tinubu second-minute broadcast on subsidy removal that resulted in hardship and a high inflation rate for Nigerians.

Speaking to journalists on Independent Day and the birthday celebration of Hon. Solomon Selcap Dalung in Plateau State, he condemned the self-inflicted hardship by the bad policy of the government.

Dalung said, “The hardship experienced by Nigerians today is a self-inflicted policy of inconsistency and disaster unleashed on the people by the President on his first day after inauguration into office where he announced a major policy without due consultation with the relevant authorities.

“No modality put on the ground to deal with the cost effect policy of subsidy regime of self-inflicting injuries is an economy catastrophe that Nigerians are currently leaving with and to worsen the situation the president embarked on deregulation of forex regime which is commonly known as floating of Naira,” he said.

According to him, the situation would now allow the naira to freely defend itself in the foreign market to compete which can only be done successfully in a producing economy but a consuming economy like our own that might risk floating currency.

Dalung lamented that Nigerians under the present regime are another serious disaster to policy because today naira has been losing the battle at the foreign exchange market where the exchange rate is getting close to a thousand to a dollar.

He stressed President Tinubu’s government’s economic management, “so I sincerely doubt it because we have already squandered the economy over a period of more than 8 years of mismanagement with four deputy governors of CBN under reckless spending.

Solomon Dalung emphasized that the president inherited an already squandered economy of four years so I don’t see them performing any miracle of saving Nigerians from the current hardship soon.

Adding, “I don’t even see them doing anything to salvage the situation for now but all hope is not lost for them to introduce physical discipline and try clear the mess in the area of recklessness in which CBN have been managing for the past 8 years “.

He called on the president to urgently restore the integrity and function of managing the economy of Nigeria with the friendly policy of revamping to get the country on track.

Dalung disclosed that the state of the nation under the current administration is lamentable because Nigerians are facing excruciating poverty, hunger, and hardship and people are dying daily of hunger, Nigerians are being kidnapped daily by bandits and kidnappers, are killed in large numbers whether by terrorists, unknown gunmen and whether you called them Fulani herdsmen those criminals are still killing and dislodging people from their ancestral homes and descending as refugees.

The state of Nigeria is not palatable now even though the president inherited it but he has not shown any readiness or concern to understand the magnitude of the challenges as his own burden of problem as the president.
