“SWAN is saddled with the sensitive duty of being the watchdog of the sports sector and the need for quality leadership cannot be overemphasized. This requires that trained and qualified professionals take charge of the administration of SWAN. I have no doubt that these new executives will take up this challenge of joining hands with the government to build sports in our country.”

The Minister promised his unflinching support and that of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the newly elected executives of Abuja SWAN as he called for a more cordial working relationship in building a lasting structure in the sports sector.

“The ministry enjoyed the total support of FCT SWAN under the former chairman, Kayode Adeniyi and for this, we are grateful. We look forward to the continuation of that good working relationship under your good and able leadership.”

Barrister Dalung emphasized the need for state chapters of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria to formulate a code of conduct and adhere strictly to it to guide the day to day activities of its members.

“Nigeria has embraced technology in the area of information dissemination and media practice. We must be cautious of how we deploy technology in disseminating information which can either build or break the sector.

“SWAN must stand up and stand firm to ensure that qualified members take up leadership positions as this will ensure that round pegs are not put in square holes. I congratulate you all and I pledge to work together with SWAN to develop sports in the country.
