Crisis Rocks Plateau APC, As Aggrieved APC Members Slam Gov. Lalong Over Endorsing Impunity, Imposition Of Candidates

Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Plateau state have slammed Governor Simon Bako Lalong for impunity and imposition of candidates ahead of the Congresses scheduled to produce chairmen’s of the party across the 17 local government councils.

 

The spokesperson for the group, Hon Lachang Laven, and Moses Depora has expressed disappointment with the action of Governor Lalong for asking party supporters to endorse unpopular aspirants over credible people.

 

They said, “we are so shocked that the governor who is the chairing a committee on the credible for advance democracy took a wrong decision of using those who are not acceptable to the generality of their community.

 

The aggrieved members accused the governor of playing double standard in promoting illegality by causing disaffection amongst the peace-loving APC in the state.

 

Hon Lachang Laven said as stalwart who was among those that formed the APC structure on the Plateau, they faced challenges of moving from Ward to Ward to beg people to join the party but that it is quite disappointing that today they are relegated completely from the affairs of the APC.

 

According to him, with was what is happening to the APC then we hardly find people who can identify with us because they were running away both at local and state government level but when you look at the party now many people who didn’t know what happened has occupied the key position of authorities.

 

He explained further that the meeting held is for them to interact with those key players to see the progress of the party.

 

Mr. Moses Koporada also on his own party said that the stakeholders meeting was to come together and fight against Governor Lalong’s impunity, imposition and injustice meted on them, adding they can’t accept the endorsement of any candidate by according to the governor’s statement.

 

Moses accused Governor Lalong of betraying the people’s trust for asking people to vote for Latep Dabang without following the APC guidelines.

 

He stressed that the people are yearning for change so no one should truncate that spirit of change, “we want the party to move forward, imposition always causes injustice to the growth and development of the party.

 

“We are appealing to the national leadership for quick intervention so as to rescue the party before it crashes.

 

The convener, Chief Amos Gizo told journalists that, he was not ready to actively participate in the meeting but the APC stalwarts deem it necessary to invite him to lead them.

 

“They have been a consistent pressure group within the party who always remind the party when things are not going well, when the complaint came to us and told us how the governor wants to impose unpopular aspirants, we want to open up to let the world know that every leader must respect the Democratic tenets.”

 

“We are not gathering here to insult anyone but to seek for a solution, we concluded that we must give voice to the voiceless.’
