Court Jails Man For N678,000 Fraud In Uyo

Justice Achibong Achibong of the Akwa Ibom State High Court, Uyo, on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, convicted and sentenced ThankGod Nwabuwe to one year imprisonment on a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Uyo Zonal Office with N50,000 option of fine on each count.

 

 

 

Nwabuwe  faced EFCC’s prosecution for obtaining a total sum of  N678,000.00 (Six Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand Naira) by false pretence, having obtained the sum of N228,000.00 (Two Hundred and Twenty-eight Thousand Naira) from one Joshua Joshua Usoro and N450,000.00 (Four Hundred Fifty Thousand Naira) from Victoria Nsima Eyo as payments for the supply of Neolife products on the pretence that he was a supplier with the company. However, he failed to supply the products to both victims who had to petition the EFCC.

 

 

 

Nwabuwe was convicted and sentenced on arraignment, following his guilty plea to the two-count charge, which ran contrary to Section 1(1)(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

 

 

 

Apart from the sentence, the convict is to refund the total sum of N678,000.00 to his two victims.
