Condemned Criminal Escapes From Owerri High Court

A condemned criminal named Ifeany Nwaeke escaped from the premises of the Owerri High Court premises in Owerri shortly after he was sentenced to death for murder.
Mr. Nwaeke who was standing trial with three others for the murder of one Emma Alaribe in an Owerri High Court, took to his heels shortly after Justice N. B. Ukoha passed death sentence on him and one Sunday Okere.
An eye witness account states that after the judgment of the court on the accused persons, the prison officials were making arrangements to escort the prisoners to a waiting vehicle when Mr. Nwaeke sped off and jumped the fence of the court into a part of Orlu Road Owerri.
However, the officers of the Nigeria Prison Services immediately gave Mr Nwaeke a hot pursuit, apprehended him and got him re-arrested.

It is said that the accused persons are also facing another charge for kidnapping of the deceased on the 21st January 2012 in another court.
