Barely seven months after the conduct of election of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Nasarawa State Chapter, there is no formal handing over between the then Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adeka and the winner of the last delegates conference of NLC held in April 2019 at Ibrahim Abacha Youth Centre Lafia.
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress,Ayuba Wabba has confirmed that Yusuf Sarki Iya is the lawfully elected Chairman of the NLC, Nasarawa State Chapter.
Wabba confided this to our reporter , Wabba asserted that Iya emerged the winner in the last election which he said was marred by complaint by one of the contestant, Abdullahi Adeka.
According to the President, “Election was conducted and winner emerged and there was a complaint and to be just we set up a committee to verify the authenticity of the complaint raised by one of the candidate.
“Stating further that the committee has finished it assignment and declare Iya as the State Chairman of NLC.
“.We will brief the press on the outcome of our assignment very soon”.said Ayuba Wabba in a telephone conversation.
“Was there no election? There was an election and Iya was declared winner*.
Comrade Iya while commenting on the directive by the national leadership of NLC directing all States Chapters of Joint Public Negotiating Council to open talk with their State Governors on the implementation of the new minimum wage buttressed that Nasarawa State NLC is looking at the possibility of engaging the State Government on the implementation of pending promotions as it topmost priority.
“Already there is a committee in place in respect to the pending promotions of civil servants in Nasarawa State.
Comrade Iya said the Nigeria Labour Congress in Nasarawa State is tactical on the issue of N30,000 minimum wage,he however maintained that NLC in the State would pursue the matter logically.
According to It’s,”As the Chairman of NLC i attended series of events organized by the national headquarters of the NLC,just of recent I represented the national President of NLC in an event.
“In the last executive meeting I was in Kano State and again I attended a retreat organized in Enugu for newly elected State executive of NLC,while at home the Governor and I had a meeting recently,he added.
Comrade Abdullahi Adeka when contacted over the lacuna that lead to the delayed to the handing over of office, official vehicle and other sensitive documents to his successor said is awaiting the outcome of the committee set up to verify the complaint he raised over the last election in the State.
“Is not a do or die affairs,I held this position before and if the outcome of the committee work did not favour me I will thank my God for given me the opportunity to serve the Union”.
Adeka expressed dismay over the delayed in the payment of September and October salaries to Medical and Health Workers in Doma,Lafia and Nasarawa Eggon,saying Local Governments in the State has gotten enough allocation in the last FAAC.
In the last NLC election held in Nasarawa State a total of 383 delegates participated in the election as Comrade Yusuf Sarki Iya polled 194 votes against 184 votes polled by the immediate past Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adeka.
