Citizens Insisted On The Publication Of List Of Looters By EFCC

Concerned Nigerians has insisted that their confidence on the ongoing fight against corruption by President Muhammadu Buhari would only be ignited if the anti graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) published a comprehensive list of corrupt Nigerians.

 

These top the discussions during a one day workshop with a theme “Media and Citizens sensitization on Federal Government Anti Corruption Agenda and Behavioral Change” held at De 1st Crow hotel, Lafia,the discussion with representatives cut across EFCC,Human Commission,Leaders of Trade Union, Religious leaders, public office holders and the media.

 

Other participants are of the view that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission should briefed the citizenry on the amount recovered from inception, saying only this would re-awaken the lost confidence on EFCC.

 

The participants agreed that both the media and religious leaders should help in instilling behavioral therapy to Nigerians especially the elites who have the keys to the nation’s treasury,the also agreed that corruption has no religion or tribal marks, therefore tribalism and religion should not constitute a barrier to the anti corruption.

 

The Head of EFCC in Nasarawa State, Ikechukwu Dennis chastise the nation’s Judicial system as a major hiccups to corruption fighting, in his address, he described corruption as a way of life in Nigeria, appealing to all and sundry to have a rethink by changing their way of life by focusing on rebuilding of the country.

 

Ikechukwu called on meaningful citizenry to report cases of fraud to the appropriate authority,the Head of EFCC when asked on the safety of informant says the identity of petitioners are kept anonymous due to their safety.

 

“We in EFCC accept petitions and complaint are treated confidentially”

 

He further appealed to individual to take advantage of their e’mail address to send vital informations about ongoing fraud.

 

Ikechukwu Dennis said trillion were recovered from Looters over the years.He charged participants to be patriotic in carrying out their responsibility of aggressive sensitization in the anti corruption fight.

 

The workshop was organized by the Centre for Social Justice in partnership with African Network For Environmental and Economic Justice which is implementing a DFID project on the monitoring of a disbursement of Abacha $322m loot across the North-Central States as part of the project objectives to sensitize the citizens and media on the Federal Government Programmmes and policies to fight corruption.

 

The Head of Unit of Federal Government Conditional Cash Transfer under the Social Investment Programme,Rhoda Ogba’u said a total of 48,688 people benefited from the scheme.

 

Usman Abubakar Ahmed,the  representative of the Head of the Unit in his keynote address averred that the unit was designed to address issues of cheating.

 

He further said 696 communities,36 wards with 522 serving groups were captured,he in addition maintained that 6 Local Governments ,out of 13 to include Awe, Akwanga,Wamba, Nasarawa, Lafia and Kokona were captured in the scheme.

 

Usman explained that beneficiary of the scheme would benefit N10,000 monthly.
