A group of Christian Politicians in Jos North and Bassa Local Government Councils have employed all the delegates for the scheduled rerun to vote wisely and ensure that Hon . Abbey Joseph Aku is democratically elected to represent the interest of the government.
Speaking during their emergency meeting held at the Bishop’s Court, Jos North Local Government on Thursday, the convener Hon. Ezekiel Dung charged the delegates not to throw away any Christian vote.
According to him, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, is a watchdog of the Christian faithful in Nigeria so there is a need for them to unite and defend the interest of its members in politics.
He said we should stop deceiving ourselves that politics is not for clergymen, we need them to pray and ensure that the state is under the rule of one of our own, so no individual can ridicule the governor and the church they stand aside and watch.
The group described Governor Simon Lalong as a visionary leader who has done enough to promote the tenets of democracy in Plateau state by encouraging peaceful coexistence across all religions that is the reason why he appointed the two Muslims as the deputy chief of staff.
Hon Dung stated that all the All Progressive Congress, APC, aspirants are an indigene of the state so we are calling on all the delegates to carefully focus on what would promote togetherness.
He emphasized that it has been a while that CAN remain silent in Plateau state, but with the recent development, we appeal to our Christian brothers and sisters to stand firm to support the governor candidate.
Ezekiel Dung urged Christians not to be aloof to politics or remain unconcerned, but rather join to influence decision-making for the good of the generality of the Christian brothers and sisters in Plateau.
He said Plateau state is in dire need of a faithful Christian that would salvage it from its many challenges, adding that the church should not be docile in the face of insecurity, corruption, and other vices threatening the country.
He noted Plateau state under the leadership of the Lalong administration, peace had come to stay in the state and that the days when people resort to violence to settle differences are over.
Dung , who expressed joy that we shall monitor all the delegates on how they cast their vote to adopt the candidature of Hon. Abbey Aku is the CAN anointed candidate.
He thanked all the Christians for their continued support of the present administration.
