The President Catholic Arch Bishop of Nigeria in Jos Arch Diocese. Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama has called on Plateau ethnic nationalities to embrace peace and live with one another irrespective of the tribes or religious differences.
Bishop Kaigama made this passionate appeal in Riyom Local Government Area of the State during the flag off distribution of relief materials to the Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Riyom Local Government Area by the Social Justice and Human Development Initiative (JDPC) in collaboration with Christian Aid, Plateau State.
“I’m happy that you care and pull the support gather through sources and channel to help and improve their condition,” he said.
The coordinator of JDPC Shendam Diocese Rev. Father Sylvester Ali said, both food and non food items cost 11, 990,508 naira are to be distributed to IDPs in Riyom and Shendam Local Government Areas of the state.
The country manager, Christian Aid Nigeria Charles Usie. In his remarks said the organization is committed to providing palliatives to assist IDPs in order to improve their living conditions, as its Mandate is to reduce poverty.
Usie pointed out that same gesture was carried out in Nasarawa state and same would also be done in Benue state as effort to reaching out to the needy.
Earlier in his opening remark, Rev Father Basil Kassam said the church assistance was necessary because of the suffering the people are going through, hence there is need to support the brethren to impact into their lives.
The items distributed included maize, rice, beans, blanket, disinfectant, mosquito nets among others.
