An Abuja based veteran’s football club, Capital Sportif Sports Club has elected new members to pilot the activities of the club for next two years.
In an election that was keenly contested by some heavyweights in the club, Bar Ugochukwu Kennedy Akpugo emerged as the new President-elect in a race that saw him polling 84 percent of vote cast as against the 16 percent garnered by his opponent, Paul Danjuma Okpo.
In the same vein, Abdujelil garnered 63 percent of the vote over Nasamu Francis to emerge as Treasurer.
Ambrose “Skippo” Okosun, Kehinde “Kinetic” Owolabi, Andy Eze, and Christian Nwosu were all returned unopposed to fill the positions of Vice President, General Secretary, Provost and Publicity Secretary respectively.
Outgoing President of the club, Rex Abitogun thanked the electoral committee, the contestants and all members for their contributions to the successful conduct of the election. He promised that the incumbent executive will work hand in hand with the incoming executive to midwife a successful transition.
He described the election as a family affair that was devoid of rancour and bad blood, describing it as having no victor, no vanquish.
Also, the President emeritus, AVM Victor Tommy Udoh commended the electoral committee for a job well done. He particularly praised the adoption of the electronic voting model which was adjudged to be highly transparent and cost effective.
The President-elect, Bar Akpugo thanked the members for finding him worthy for the coveted post and Okpo for being a worthy challenger.
“The Club has spoken and we all won. The victory today is victory for all. Thank you all for this feat. At this point in time, I want to enjoin us all to continue to embrace that dream that binds us together as a family. Together we shall conquer. Thank you, thank you, and thank you all.” Akpugo stated.
The gesture was also returned by Mr. Okpo, who promised to offer his full support to the leadership of Bar. Akpugo.
The house in sitting, agreed to fill the positions of Financial Secretary and Welfare Secretary on a later date to be decided by the general house.
Capital Sportiff Football Club was founded in 2005 with membership opened to well standing veterans from 35 years of age, irrespective of race, tribe or religion.
The objectives of the club includes helping members stay fit and healthy, while fostering unity and togetherness. The objectives also includes promoting and supporting footballing activities across the country, while also helping aspiring talents to reach their goals.
