The National Secretariat of the Christian Association of Nigeria has been plunged into chaos following the misappropriation of money amounting to more than N400 million which was meant to procure vehicles for the leadership of the Association allegedly by the General Secretary, Rev. Musa Asake.
The Executive Director Pastor Musa Kallamau Ali Dikwa and his Secretary Rev. Jesse Samuel in a press statement made available to universalreporters247.com on Wednesday 24/01/2018 by the National President of YOWICAN, Engr. Daniel David Kadzai alleged that the General Secretary of CAN Rev. Musa Asake, the Assistant Secretary Mr. Joseph Daramola, were allegedly engaged in a dirty deal by defrauding CAN of over N400 million.
The statement further stated that the General Secretary spent an unapproved sum of over N37.5 million on four official vehicles for the President, Vice President, General Secretary and the Treasurer respectively.
Part of the statement read,” The purchase of these cars were handled exclusively by Rev. Musa Asake and the amount of money approved by CAN was inflated twice the amount approved by the President, in order to cover their kickback package.”
“The Executive Director revealed that the processes and procedures for the purchase of four vehicles for principal officers from Cotonou, Benin Republic was a malicious process, describing the whole process as greed and usual corrupt meanderings”.
It further hinted that Rev. Asake suddenly appointed himself as CAN purchasing officer in order to perfect his evil, he insisted on buying the cars himself against the norms of CAN.
The press statement however accused Asake, Daramola, and Onifade of squandering a whopping over N 1.2 million on only transport to Cotonou when Deacon Segun Ogundare a car dealer was officially contracted for the purchase of these cars,”.
The breakdown shows that the CAN president Prado jeep cost N 12,625,000, the CAN Vice President Prado jeep cost N 9,250,00, the General Secretary Lexus jeep cost N12,600,00 million and the Assistant Secretary car cost N 3,500,00 million.
The crisis started following a request by the President asking his Secretary Mr. Musa Asake ,to give the National Executive Council a vivid account of revenue generated in the past two years from the hotel, car parking space of the Association that are been hired by the apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other ventures belonging to the association.
This has ignited a serious rift in the leadership as a section of the officials has uncovered plans by few executive members to impeach the national President Rev Dr. Supo Ayokunle, who is in faraway United States of America for an official engagement.
An Official of CAN who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the plans to remove the national President may not be unconnected to the President’s effort to set up a probe panel over the missing monies amounting to over N400 million.
An impeccable source from the Secretariat pointed out the request did not go down well with the Secretary who allegedly teamed up with the Vice- President pastor Joseph Otubu, to write a petition against the President in his absence in order to plot his impeachment on what he described as frivolous allegations.
“Since the first day we resumed work the Vice- President has been eying the office of the President and that has just manifested in his recent childish petition against the President, we are not disturbed because it is an exercise in futility,” the source stated.
It was gathered that the action of the President to probe his Secretary and other executive members may be as a result of last year petition against his Secretary and other officials on the alleged massive fraudulent activities going on in the Christian Association of Nigeria national headquarters”.
Available Information unfolded that the Voice of Northern Christian Movement of Nigeria has asked the elders of the Association to handover the Secretary and other suspected officials involved in the fraud to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation.
A reliable source confided that the Vice President Professor Joseph Otubu rejected his Prado jeep which is still parked at the CAN headquarters out of protest on why the General Secretary official jeep cost will be higher than his own.
The press statement further alleged that the yearly rent of N10 million received from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for parking space and the rent from CAN hall and hotel running into over N50 million monthly is not accounted for by the General Secretary.
