Breaking News: Senate Stops Confirmation Of INEC ‘S Recs Over Buhari’s Refusal To Sack Magu

The Senate has suspended the confirmation of the 27 resident electoral commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Peter Nwaoboshi, senator representing Delta north, moved a motion that the exercise be suspended based on the refusal of the executive to accept the senate’s rejection of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Also, Sen. Uroghide also wants the request to be stand down, cites Magu’s case, that after their decision he is still acting Chairman of the EFCC.

On his own part, Senator Adamu Aliero supports the nomination and begged his colleagues to look into the list & allow the screening to go on.

“If the Senate is ridiculed our institution has been ridiculed, we will try as much as possible to promote this institution, ” Sen. Anyanwu said.

Sen. Francis Alimikhena said; “Lets hear from President Buhari on Magu’s case, Magu is terrorizing us, because we disqualified him.”

Then the Senate’s Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu said there’s a time frame to stand down the confirmation, as he asked Senator Saraki to convey their feelings to Mr. President.

However, Senate President Bukola Saraki SP, puts the question and the Confirmation of INEC REC is stood down for two weeks.
