Breaking: Chemical Explosion Kills 8, Injures 101 In Jos

No fewer than eight persons has been confirmed dead and  One hundred and one ( 101 )  persons have been hospitalized in Plateau state after excess Chlorine inhalation from an exploded Chlorine Cylinder at Lamingo Water Board Treatment Plant.

The Director of Press and Media to Governor Simon Lalong ,Mr Emmanuel Nanle who disclosed this in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos said the victims  are  now receiving treatment at OLA Hospital, Evangel Hospital (Jankwano), Plateau Specialist Hospital and Airforce Hospital, some of which have been discharged. He also said 8 (Eight) people have been confirmed dead as a result of the inhalation of the contaminated air.

“The contamination has been contained and does not affect the water which has been supplied to Public Mains; water from the public mains is safe for consumption and is not affected in anyway by the Ariel contamination of Chlorine from the exploded cylinder,” the statement said.

Nanle explained that Government wishes to commiserate with the families of the victims of this industrial hazard and has taken immediate measures to address the issues of expired components of the Treatment Plant and to guard against future reoccurrence of this unfortunate incidence. it was gathered the some of the victims are in critical conditions.

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong described as unfortunate the explosion from the Chlorine Cylinder of the Plateau State Water Board Treatment plant located at Dogon Karfe, Jos-South Local Government Area which claimed many lives.

Governor Lalong while sympathizing with the families of eight victims (8) who lost their lives as a result of the excess Chlorine Inhalation from the explosion and the over one hundred and one (101) affected persons of the Chlorine inhalation living within the treatment plant are currently receiving treatment at OLA Hospital, Evangel Hospital (Jankwano), Plateau Specialist Hospital and Air force Military Hospital, wishes the 101 quick recovering.

He assured the public that government has already contained the situation and further added that the contamination has not affected the water which has been supplied to the public through the main water pipes and it safe for human consumption.

The Governor also said immediate measure has been put in place to address the issue of expired components of the Treatment Plant which will guard against future re-occurrence of this unfortunate incidence.
