Breaking: Bomb Explosion Rocks Abuja School

A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, killing one student and injuring four others.

The explosion, reported around noon, caused widespread panic within the school and the surrounding community. The deceased student was reportedly carrying the explosive device when it detonated.

Vanguard gathered that earlier in the day, the school had held a resumption assembly to welcome newly admitted students, who had resumed on January 3, 2025.

Emergency responders, including a police bomb disposal squad, swiftly arrived at the scene, and the injured students were rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention.

Authorities are currently investigating how the student obtained the suspected explosive device and the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.

The explosion has heightened fears about security in schools and the risks of explosive materials in the hands of minors.

As of press time, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has not issued an official statement, and efforts to contact the spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, have been unsuccessful.
