The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN in Kano State, revealed why its members boycotted the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company NIPCO 2016 Annual General Meeting.
At a press briefing in Kano, chairman of the state’s wing of IPMAN, Alhaji Bashir Ahmad Dan Malam, stated that his members were denied access to information about the status of their shares and all liberties attached to owning a share in the company.
He said that members of the association had kept quiet for over 10 years, hoping that things would change, adding that they have decided to seek redress.
We have invested hugely in the company, and from the report we received, the company was not even registered in the stock exchange company list. Some of our members who have shares in the company have died and we couldn’t trace their investments in NIPCO.
Not only that we decided to boycott this year’s meeting, we will also go to court and seek redress on what is lawfully ours, the chairman said.
