A suspected black BAGCO sack bag placed close to the fence of JIBWIS College for Higher Islamic Studies along Sarkin Mangu adjacent to Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir’s in Plateau state today created fears and tension, scaring away  residents  who were closed to the fence who thought the bag was a bomb.

The first Aid Group of JIBWIS in conjunction with Vigilante group keeping watch around the environment saw the suspicious bag and alerted men of the Special Task Force (STF), and the Police, who were quick and prompt in response.

It was gathered that the sack bag was discovered to have in it an object connected with wires that looked like an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), wrapped in garbage which was successfully defused by men of the police anti bomb squad, in the early hours of Friday.

“We thank Allah for the safety, and equally urged People to remain calm and to continue to be watchful and disseminate information on any suspicious movement and strange things within them to the security agencies,” said JIBWIS.

JIBWIS also wish to express appreciation to the vigilante group,  its own first aid group, the security operatives, and residence of the area for their readiness in the fight against insurgency.

We are also reiterating our calls on the innocent People to rise above board to protect themselves, JIBWIS said this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ahmad Ashiru.

When contacted the Media/ Information officer of the Special Task Force (STF), Captain Ikedechi Iweha, said the information “has reached us on Thursday night and we have cordon off the area, for safety.”

The police anti bomb squad have been deployed to keep safe the area.

However, the Police Public Relation Officer Plateau State Command DSP Abu Emmanuel, said while confirming the discovery to universalreporters247.com in a telephone chat, that the substance was later analysed to find out that it was not an “IED.”

He said: “The purported IED, was analysed and after that the state commandant of the anti bomb squad has confirmed that it was a Hoax, that was made to create panic in the mind of the People.”

Our correspondent reported that residence were scared by the news and as at the time when the substance was taken away by the anti bomb squad, People ran into jubilation.
