The Principal of Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Yola, Mrs Zulekatu Usman Momodu has praised an international non Governmental organisation (INGO) run by the former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, for giving scholarship to 2,400 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country.

The gesture was through the help of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance and NEMA. They are serving as the implementation agencies of the program which is aiming at saving the girl child Education in the North-east, especially those that were displaced because of Boko Haram attacks.

According to her 800 hundreds IDPs on the scholarship were spreads across all the unity schools in the country where FGGC Yola received a total number of 46 students from Borno, Yobe and Adamawa who are the worst hit of insurgents attacks in the country.

“The program is called safe school initiative, it came up as a result of Boko Haram attacks in the North-eastern region of the country in other to sustain the girl child Education, “Momodu said

She further said that the 46 students were fully integrated in the school system, were a sort of feel at home training was given to them as they must have went through a lot of ordeals that made their socio psychological reasoning to be affected and traumatised.

“I especially set a community that will give them a constant counselling being the fact that many of them came with a lot of inferiority complex in them and the level of their exposure is very low virtually performing below expectations in all subjects”.

“We are making sure their total being is properly handled and well addressed and with God on their side they are seriously improving,” she added

She thank the Federal Government for standing firm on fighting the war against insurgents and appealed to well spirited individuals to give more scholarship to IDPs as the present number of scholarship is nothing to write home about compare to the thousands of school age children who are being displaced because of insurgents attacks.

Meanwhile Mrs Zulekatu has already been known to have shape the entire school and repositioned it for academic excellence, as records last year that her school graduated over 80 percent in both WAEC and NECO who have university requirements.
